This course examines the character and leadership of the Virginia Dynasty-Washington, Jefferson, Madison, and Monroe-four of the nation's first five presidents. Topics include policy decisions, personality, race, and slavery. Trips to presidential homes will be an integral part of the course, and students will be required to reflect on these experiential elements with the in-class lecture, discussions, and assignments.
