Course covers the development of Western Europe from the collapse of the Roman Empire to the beginnings of the Renaissance with emphasis on the ideas, individuals and events that shaped the period. Topics include daily life for the masses, evolution of political and religious thought, consolidation of state and religious authority, cultural shifts and the rise of a persecuting society, and medieval warfare.
