Examination of theatrical literature and forms from the late 19th century well-made plays, Realism, Expressionism, Futurism and Symbolism, to Epic theatre and the Theatre of the Absurd. Playwrights such as Henrik Ibsen, Bernard Shaw, Anton Chekhov, Eugene O'Neill, Bertolt Brecht, Samuel Beckett, and others will be studied. The goals of this course are for students to gain an understanding of the scope, history, techniques and influence of Modern Drama. FILA general education: literature and writing intensive.
